Stopping email notifications when a thread derails

PP Admin, would it be possible to implement a feature whereby members (ie. I) can disable email notifications when someone replies to a thread which I posted in? Sometimes, the threads here delve into useless or uninteresting directions and I would rather not get lots of email notifications when a few members are hashing out their differences.
