Grouping with MSP

Here’s the situation:

In trying to duplicate the format of a P3 project with MSP, I’ve assigned the "Text_," where _ is a number (in this case 1-6) various codes and descriptions i.e. SB-submittal, CN-construction, etc.; and when I customize these fields with the value list (row 1=SB, row 2=CN), I have the option of displaying the order in dropdown menu by row, but when I try to group by these 6 Field names, I only have the option of my order being in ascending or descending alphabetic order. Clearly I would like SB to be above CN in the displayed schedule, but I cannot figure out a method for doing so. If anyone has any ideas for getting this accomplished, it would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize if this was too wordy.

Thanks.

    Phil,
Why don’t you say "Row 1=1-SB, Row 2=2-CN"?
This way, MSP will keep the order you want

That was my back-up plan, but I wanted to see if there was a way to group it the same way it’s grouped in the "drop-down menu," before trying that approach...for aesthetic reasons, but push come to shove, I could certainly try that. I just figured it if had assigned it in some priority in the "drop-down menu," there might be some way to also have it grouped in a similar fashion.

Also, I tried this, and it seems to be grouping alphabetically by "description" vs. the input code, so 1-SB had no impact but 1-Submittal did.

    Phil,

The only way to get is to show in the order that you want, is to apply an initial numeric coding. ie.

    1. Project Management
    2. Design.
    3. Manufacture
    4. Installation
    5. Commissioning.

If you don’t, then you are quite right in that it will order them alphabetically.

    Hello,
If you are not using the leveling function, you can use the native MSP field "priority".

If you want to preserve for the future the use of this function, I recommend to use a customisable field of MS Project (like number1), paste in this field the Pimavera Breakdown structure ans sort with it !

    regards
