When I am comparing the two, can I say that effort driven means it is task dependent and resource driven is resource dependant.

For most constuction programme, which one is the more appropiate ?

I have some misunderstanding and doubts on these 2 terms. Can someone enlight me on this ?

    Hi Hui

It depends on the nature of activity used in the project .There might be some activity where loading resources more could make the work get it done.Eg.Fixing Pipe in a room

Other depends on duration regardless of the resource the activity used Eg.Curing of structures

    Lucas,
Task dependent use activity calendar and drive resource. Recommended setting is to used Fixed Duration and Unit or Fixed Duration and Unit/Time. Using this duration type ignore driving resources regardless Drive Activity dates by default is tick. This is the most commonly used activity type in planning with or without resources.

Resource dependent use resource calendar and recommended setting is to used Fixed Unit/Time or Fixed Unit. Resource dependent requires resource assigned and control activity behavior when Drive activity dates by default is selected.

The sensitivity of an activity’s duration to resource addition is called its "resource elasticity". It’s an important characteristic for a planner to now, but it’s not very easily handled in software.

In the Total Project Control process, it’s managed by getting a second duration estimate: the Doubled Resource Estimated Duration, or DRED. If an activity is estimated to take 20D with a given load of resources, how long would it take if the resources are doubled. Possibilities include 10D ("perfectly resource elastic"); 12D (more common than 10D in most non-construction activities); 16D; 20D ("not resource elastic at all"; or 30D (installing the avionics in the cockpit of a jet fighter). Such variations are the sort of thing that there’s really no "automatic" ways of managing this.

If the scheduler has the DREDs for each activity, when s/he sees which activities are on the CP with lots of DRAG, looking at the DREDs of each activity helps show where resources and funds might most profitably be targeted.

    Fraternally in project management,
