Resource Curve in Excel

Dear Friends,

In Primavera there are different resource curves available. Similarly is it possible to develop in excel. Like we will have total manhours for the certain duration for each discipline. I like to distribute these manhours for each month either in bell shaped, linear, front / back loaded etc.,. Is there any formula or VBA or any method to do the same in excel.

Or anyone knows the formula or method which Primavera adopts to distribute resources for each period based on the selection of the type of resource curve.

Thanks / Regards,
Bharath Kumar J

    Resource Curve

My understanding is that Primavera distributes the resource or cost at the activity level of detail. I was not aware that distributions were made by time period.

This is the equation for a bell shaped curve.

You can use this to get the y coodinates for the curve . this can be used to get the percentage distribution which can then be used to spread your manhour data in excel.

Alternatively you could get the percentage used by primavera to spread the data corresponding to each curve and use it in excel.

    Resource Curve in Excel

    Hi Bharath,

You are right, in P3 there are different progress curves you can assign to each activity and you can even customised it. You can basically adopt the default distribution in P3 represented in perentages, however in excel, this will depend on the duration of the activity and you need to make your own judgement on how you want to distribute the weightings. First you need to judge on what type of progress curve you need to apply for each activity, i.e. linear, bell type, front load, back load, etc. and then you decide on the percentage distribution.

    Best regards,

    Daniel
