I dont know how far my Q is Sensible??
In my updates, the moment i update activities with actual start and %, the total float becomes very lage and looks out of sequence. Is it may be because of Progress override scheduling option or because of not haveing Finish link? OR some other? can some body help me in keeping that float logical???

Please

Shiva

    Shiva,

It is because of Progress Override. When you choose Progress Override, P3 ignores network logic and allows the activity to progress without delay.

So, change the calculation mode to Retained Logic and reschedule your work programme. You will get the logical float.

    Yes Suku
I did it. and it gave logical float.
What should be normaly done? I mean scheduling with progress overide or Retain logic?

    Any way thaks..

IMHO, generally the retained logic option should be used. However there are occasions were operations are not directly related to each other, but all need to be done before moving on to the next stage, and progress override can be used.

It is really up to the skill and knowledge of the planner to decide, there is no definitive answer.

    Steven you are right.
Basically, Retained Logic is the preferable method. The planner still can use Progress Override to schedule the work programme but after every update he/she need to do some homework, i.e. link all the out-of-sequence activities to the nearest logical successor (FF + lag or FS +/- lag) to minimise/control the large positive float.
