Scope for Piping design engineer with experience of planning

hi,

I m working as piping design engineer for last 5 years till date.Now I m getting the opprtunity to work with project dept at planning engineer level  for oil & gas sector in my organsiation as projets dept require the Planning engineer with piping experience.In future My aim to make career in projects .

So it is right way to go in projects by having knowledge of Design as well as spending few years in Planning & control to becme good project manager.??please put ur view for tha same.
