LOEs flag all member activities as critical?

Greetings,
I’ve a quick question on how P6 treats level of effort activities when it flags activities as either critical or not critical.
It appears that if a level of effort activity in P6.0 contains a mix of critical and non-critical activities, it will cause all of its member activities to be flagged as critical. From that, it seems that all of a non-critical activity’s predecessors get flagged as bright red too, even if they’re driving nothing at all.
Is this correct and, if so, does anyone know how I might be able to have P6 ignore non-critical activities that become flagged otherwise just because they are associated with LOE activities that contain genuinely critical activities?
So far, neither "longest path" nor "total float less than ..." settings change how these non-critical activities are flagged. Also, multiple path settings don’t seem to be able to distinguish between them either.
Much obliged for any feedback,
Adrian.
