updating progress in p6

hello People,
What is the proper way of updating progress in p6? i used to update my progress base on pysical progress, now, my activities is finish as planned however in the actual it is only 60% progress base on my physical progress, but everytime i update the activites it goes 100% w/c i understand, so i have to change it’s and put the actual percentage, when i press the f9, i’m expecting the program will read it and assume the early finish i must have,instead the left over percentage will stop on the data date,pls note that i still have 40% work to be done on the activities.why it always ends to the data date, i know my schedule is late .anybody can help me in this problem.
