I know this may be a bit of old news, but it still keeps coming up. Here's how to change the version number of a Primavera P6 XER file if you're having trouble importing it http://ow.ly/ZQSfI

    the information in link is correct they way that you have it but there is an exception.

    In P6 15.2.3, Primavera has added a checksum to the XER and XML files to “identify whether the XML/XER has been modified externally”. So if you change it the check sum feature makes the file unusable. 

    However, in P6 15.2.5, they have removed the checksum because it created more issues than it resolved
