Hi

Track my project progress;

Status tab

Example: Activity Original Duration 10 days

Tracking: Remaining duration 4 days

Schedule past 10 days

At complete 14 days

Why the % complete is 60% (related to original duraton) instead of 71% (10/14 10 days worked in a new total duration of 14 days)???

    that's how P6 calculate it.

that's how P6 calculate it. something like bugdeted duration for work performed.

    duration % complete= (OD-RD)/OD

you have 10 days and the

you have 10 days and the remaining is 4 days that means of the 10 days that you completed 6 days of work

    therefore 6/10=.60 or 60%

    straight math

    Hi Zoltan

Straight Math, that is a valid point of view and also how P6 works.

    Another point of view is:

The original duration that we estimated is nothing more as a prediction.

When we perform the project and track it we could realize the duration of an activity could be different than original, our prediction were wrong.

So we "inform" P6 we need more time to perform the activity, example: remaining 4 days.

Automaticaly P6 calculate all values accordingly the original duration.

Should we change the original duration???

    you can change the original

you can change the original duration but once the activity begins it is best to put in remaining duration no matter how long the original duraiton duration was. If you do this you will lose the original intent. It might be best to finnd out why the original durations are not accurate. If you see a trend developing then go ahead and revised the original durations of the activities not started. If the original durations are not being held to due to a delay then thats another story.
