Weighting in P3 ? How & Where

This is the first time I have been the clients planner. My previous (and limited experience)I planned work for Operations campaigns offshore, and detail design on engineering projects. On both of these project types I used either % against document deliverables (in an excel spreadsheet weighting the manhours again the CTRs) or manhours/budget and actual costs in P3. My dilemma on my new project is I will be looking after lets say 7 sub projects (contracts). In P3 I have created these sub projects and all durations are in. Now!! I need to perform Earned Value....how do I do this in P3 without resources (manhours)? Each contract is broken-down into a WBS which roles up to our CBS....if that’s any help. I know how to weigh each of my sub projects in excel for % complete, but what and how do I do this utilising P3.

I have read the previous forum comments before writing this message and have found that information valuable.....but the missing ingrediant is how to do it step by step in P3.

Thank you for you assistance.

Samantha

It would be possible, if you were to create a 2 custom data items, one to hold the budget value and one to hold the "earned value", then use a global change to multiply % complete for the activity by the 1st CDI and place the result in the 2nd.

Bit of a nut and slegehammer job, but would work.

How do you intend to arrive at your baseline distribution to compare the earned value to ?. Earned Value on its own is just a number.

Thanks for the assistance Steven, if you’ve some more advice about comparing against the baseline I’d appreciate that also.

Thats what I meant. How are you going to distribute the manhours to produce a baseline to compare the earned value to ?.
