Guys,
Can I link Ms Access to P3? I am getting data from site which is updated in Ms Access, with has identical Activity ID no, Start & Finish dates and Act %, so if its possible to link the two, I dont have to do repetitive work to update activities in P3. Please advise.
Thank you.

Whilst ODBC does work it is much better to use Ra the P3 Object model mentioned by Dayanidhi if you intend to update P3. ODBC is great for reporting.
ODBC does not reference the business rules (autocost rules) and you need to perform ALL of the associated updates the P3 performs when you manually enter the data...if you miss some you will end up will data that does not make sense.
The Ra object model automatically does this for and can be found on you P3 CD. - 0MVMarcel van der Leij ·Guys,
I recently tried to install the Pervasive od32v204 driver on a Windows XP computer, however I can not get beyond the point where you enter the path of the DDF directory.
When closing the window in order to return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator, the following error message appears :
"Login must succeed before data source entry can be written. (statuscode 802)"
Of course the directory exists and contains the 3 Primavera DDF files. I also tried to enter the directory with the demo DDF files installed by the driver, with no success either.
Could any of you guys point me in the right direction?
Marcel - 0FBFrank Borcherdt ·Assume you have P3 3.1 installed on the same machine so you have the btrieve microkernel files as well as the ODBC drivers.
I just loaded the ODBC drivers and was able to link and retrieve data using MS Access 2002 SP3 and an XP Pro SP2 machine with all Micrsoft critical patches loaded.
I used the P3 ODBC Manager to create the ODBC datasource.
Find at http://www.ecspl.com.au/support/odbc Copy to P3WIN folder, run it once without P3 running to add tool to Tools menu and then you can run from Tools menu in any open project to create the ODBC source. - 0MVMarcel van der Leij ·Frank,
I installed that file into the P3-menu item. At the first click on it it was complaining that the Pervasive driver was not installed. I then tried to install the driver thru the windows configuration program as I tried a dozen times before and this time I succeeded to go past that point where it broke off the installation all previous times.
So I can now import those DDF files into Access very easily, thanks to you mate.

Have got a detailed method.
This has Also been discussed before will find the link is http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?Cat=2&Top=7181.
Please have a look at Daya Explanation it is a good tip for - 0APAndy Parkes ·So we now know how to link the data.
But I’m finding difficulty in updating activity data in Access and transfering those changes back to P3.
I’ve created the Access tables as Linked tables (rather than Imported), but when I change the data - Access tells me that:
"Write Conflict
This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it. If you save the record, you will overwrite the changes the other user has made.
Copying the changes to the clipboard will let you look at the values the other user entered, and then paste your changes back in if you decide to make changes."
It doesn’t give me an option to "Save Record" (the option is disabled), just "Copy to Clipboard" or "Drop Changes"
So I just can’t do what I want to do.
Any advice? - 0ZHZhang Haixiang ·Daniel,
I don’t think it is a good to update P3 file using Access. To do this you need a very clear understanding of P3 data structure, otherwise you will input some invaid data, and make your file corrupt. I suggest to use RA instead, because RA will do some basic data checking. I use Access (informaker) & OBDC only for reporting, because they can generate more professional report than P3.
For your task, you do not need to make it so complex.
Just make a query in Access to include Act ID, Act Dur, rem dur ...what ever you want, then save this query as a DBF file, and then import it to P3. Make sure the field length is the same as P3 expected (e.g. description 48 char...)
