P3 SCHEDULE VARIANCE

I have reset the target for an existing schedule. I was expecting the Schedule Variance (SVQ) to be zero (0). However, substantial (negative) SV remains (Earned Value calculation is set to calculate against Target 1).

As the new target is effectively a copy of the current schedule, I cannot see why there should be any SV until there is a progress update and/or the data date moves.

I suspect it is something to do with original durations and actual durations (which are not the same) "spreading" the resource Budget Quantities over differnt periods.

Am I missing something and how would I eliminate SV after a project has been previously progressed?

Thanks

    Hi Trevor,

    To clear variances (per activity):

    1. check that your remaining duration (RD) is not equal to 0
    2. if RD is 0, reset your progress PCT % to 0 (note previous figure)
    3. increase your original duration (OD) and enter orig PCT %
    4. repeat items 1 & 2 until RD is at least 1
    5. click Res (Resources) Tab
    6. edit the figure "At Completion" and make it equal to "Budgetted Quantity"
    7. Click OK.

    Hope this helps.
