How to use "Update Progress" tool? In what circumstances?

Is it mandatory to be used with Progress spotlight?

What Primavera does when "Update progress" is carried out?

I'm in need of clear answers clarifying the purpose, use & application of "Update Progress". Could somebody help?

    When you use progress update

     

    When you use progress update option the progress will be updated from the original data date till the new data date, automatically, as planned. You have mention the new data date, till when you need to update the progress.
