I’ve read just about every post that has been listed with regard to the comparison of P3 and P3ec and it leaves most construction based planners with a bit of a problem.
As I understand it, P3 as a 16 bit application, will no longer be upgraded by Primavera so it is now as good as it is ever going to get, and one assumes at some point will become obsolete if support for 16 bit applications drops off the OS list of requirements or Primaver pull the plug on support etc.
The constuction industry seems to prefer P3 to P3ec, but will eventually have to change.
Are there any statistics available form Primavera regarding Constuction and related companies upgrading or migrating to the new P3ec platform?
As a claims consultant specialising at the moment in forensic type planning, we are usually provided with soft copies of other contractors programmes generally in P3 format. (In Hong Kong where I’m based, P3 is used on about 90% of all major projects).
It would make sense to upgrade to P3ec only if there was a major shift away from P3 to P3ec in the Construction industry, or the upward and downward compatibilty between P3 and P3ec was seemless, and without data loss. This is one topic that not much has been commented on.
It would appear that the only solution for the company that I work for is to have both products, but it would be a huge waste of time and money if the Construction industry decides P3ec is not the dogs wobblies for the type of programmes generaly produced.
We all have to consider upgrades at some point, is now the right time to go P3ec?
