Copying project groups and projects

I am using p3.1
I have set up an overall Group project/Sub project schedule. I receive updated progressed schedules from the individual contractors and I’m trying to copy the updated schedule into the group project without deleteing the existing sub project. It is not letting me do this. I keep getting an error message. Invalid project name.
Again I don’t want to delete the existing sub-project and then copy it in because I would loose certain logic within over group project.
I hope this makes sense.

Sorry I am not sure if I get your message correctly from your query. I assumed that check-in/ check-out is the solution to your problem. If the program you get from your subcontractor is exactly the same as your subgroup project then it will update only your existing subgroup project activities and new activities will be added.
You need to check-out your subproject first to enable you to check-in the subgroup project from your subcontract.
Otherwise create a new project and export it to dbf format with all your required fields then import it back to your existing project to update.
