Resource hierarchy in P3.

In our we have resources (X1, X2 etc) & their holiday cycles defined (in resource limits) & hierarchical resource(X*).
When the end dates of respective resources (X1 & X2) are same, we get overall (X*) resource availability, but not when the end dates are different.
Is this a P3 limitation or am i missing something.
