Maipulating Activity code structures

OK, I have an old plan that has an activity code structure that is almost right and a whole load of reports and layouts etc that match it.

The order of the activity codes (from 1 to 20) though is not exactly what I want to I want to re-order them. Some come from an export (from another programme) and some are user input so I want to group the two. The trouble is, if I write the coding structure from scratch then import my reports, it maps the activity code selections to the same *number* code (from 1 to 20) rather than to the code itself, thus the reordering of the codes messes up all my filters and lots of my report calculations.

If I can’t manually re-order the activity codes then I suppose I’ll have to transfer the whole structure and live with them being out of sequence but the neat freak in me would like them to be grouped properly. Anyone know how to do this?

I understood you want to change the order of the activity codes and not the order of values.

    Try the following:

    1-Create an empty project group.
2-Define the activity codes under the project group in the order you want.
3-Add the original job as a member of the project group.

    Always remember to keep backups.

    Raphael,

Sounds good and you are correct, the order of the codes rather than the values is what I am trying to change. I’ll give it a go.

    James,

Remember to make backups, although I believe the trick will only make available for you to see the common fields and might not clear the other values as when you delete activity codes it is better to play it safe until you find out.

I tried with a sample job that had 4 activity codes and defined only 2 for the group in an inverted order, it worked. I forgot to detach the job again to see if the other fields are still available and populated.

    Best regards,
    Rafael
