Dear planner,
I have a question, I have a schedule, if I add same resource for each activity, and each activity have different unit, how can I show the column with the unit I defined;
And how can i realize the function after I save the schedule as a baseline, when I update the schedule, there will be a column like earned unit will changed according to the percent finished of the activity.
Thanks

    Jack Li,
by default MS Project displays the resource’s amount of work in hours; however, you can enter a specific amount of work for each resource assignment and force the unit by typing the unit initial letter (w(eek), d(ay), m(inute)
MSP will display the assignment work in the unit you have chosen

    Alexandre,
the question was about activity unit. I think that it was about physical quantity of work, in Spider Project we call it work volume.
Like installing 30 pieces of something, pouring 6 cubic meters of concrete, building 100 meters of the pipeline, etc.

I think that it can be simulated by assigning some dummy materials though this approach has some disadvantages. The number of these amounts may be high, they could not be used as an input for estimating durations, etc.

But maybe I did not understand the question properly.

    Vladimir,
you’re right, Jack was asking about activity, not resource unit; my mistake
it is possible in MSP to enter a different DURATION unit for each activity, the same as WORK units; but this approach can be confusing, as the scheduler will have to add days to weeks, ... (MSP will do that without any mistake)
MSP is no really the software of choice for physical progress
I cannot see any mean to select the duration unit from the Duration field and display it in another column

    Jack Li,

I don’t quite understand the "unit" you’re refering to either. Is it related to resources or quantities (work volume)?

If you mean "resources" you can see the units assigned for each activity in several ways, e.g. in the "Resource Names" column in the "Gantt Chart"-view where they appear in square brackets or maybe better in the "Task Usage"-view by inserting the "Assignments Units"-column. Concerning earned unit you probably need to do something like Alexandre suggested in his first reply.

If you mean "quantities" you need to introduce e.g. "Number 1"-column where you then input the quantities / units for each activity. The earned unit you can then get by making a customized formula for e.g. the "Number 2"-column going like this: [Number1]*[% Complete]/100" (or % Work Complete if you prefer that). This Earned Unit (i.e. Number 2) will be updated automatically every time you change the %.

    Regards,

    Bo
