Plan Value

Hi all’

Sorry for questioning this, since i am new here and i don’t know wether this had been questioned before.

I have been using custom data item to create the percentage of Plan calculated from Plan Value. The figure will be used and modified weekly to support information to the Project Team which activities are behind and what is our next week plan %.

Since we have been behind from the early start of the project, the PMT decides to use the average % for plan in the S-curve. The question is how can i make the plan value to show the average instead of Early so i can measure each activity to the average percentage.

Thanx,

I am not quite sure what you are asking. If you are refering to the average percentage being the average resource allocation to an activity by ignoring how resources have being allocated to an activity by way of using resource lags and or resource curves (late, early, etc. profile) and the like, then I suggest the best method would equate the time elapsed based on the duration of the activity. Which would ultimately be the same as averaging (spreading) your resource requirements across an activity, i.e. (Original Duration(OD) - Remaining Duration(RD)) / Original Duration(OD). Or similair dirivative.

It is more likely that I do not understand your question but maybe this might help.

    Thanks for your response Nigel,

My concern is this, my activities in P3 already resources loaded (man-hours), and from that i generated plan percent of each activities. I used Plan value (BQWS) and convert them in to Plan %, but the plan value can only show the early plan value, i do not know how to generate BQWS with average or at least late plan value.

The reason i am looking the average or late is because our project does ot use early plan anymore since it is too aggresive, we use average plan instead.

Hopefully i make my self clear now.

    Thanks

Ok, I think I know what you are saying. Average = Resource Leveling.
Just keep in mind thean when you LEVEL resources in P3, P3 overights the Early Start and Early Finish Dates. What is always a good idea is to store the Early dates in user defined fields, like PLNS and PLNF which have usually already been created for you by default. Use Global Update to copy the Early dates into these fields before running resource leveling. These can than be used later on you graphics. After leveling the Early Dates are your new "Average" dates.

Let me know is this is any help.

    Cheers
