If a contract calls for an activity to be submitted withing X days or no later than X days, then how can you schedule it (P6) without using constraints?

    Dear Sophia,

You are left with 4 types of relationships and 2 ties.

    Relationships: FS, SS, FF, SF
    Ties: Lead and Lags

Usually the Contract Specifies LEVEL 1 schedules milestones. Milestones are activities with zero durations and resources.

What you are describing are Constraints. So if you can be more specific about your Contractual Requirement, maybe we can assist.

    With kind regards,

    Samer

    Hi Samer,

    Thanks for the reply.

For instance, if you have to submit a submittal within 14 days of the notice to proceed would be one example.

The other would be submittal must be submitted and approved 30 days before commencing the relevant construction activity.

    No negative lags are allowed.

    Dear Sophia,

All of these are normal Finish to Start Activities. That means that the Successor will start only after the Finish of the Predecessor.

The second example is not a must. It is a condition. After material submittal, you have shop drawings and procurement. So the 30 days might not be enough.

    With kind regards,

    Samer
